It represents the ash whose deep roots make it hard to move. Its dense and resilient wood was often used for weapons and shields.
Ác and Æsc were later divisions of the Ansuz phoneme from the Elder Futhark. Ác is one of the characters created to compensate for the phonetic sounds not originally found in early Germanic languages.
